The League of Women Voters of Tompkins County

Local LWV Health Care Committee

The goal of this committee is to help keep ourselves and the broader membership of the league informed of the issues of health care reform. We do this by meeting monthly and discussing the issues, sharing articles and writing an article in the monthly newsletter. We are working with local state and national groups to try to track state and national policy and advocate for our position to assure a basic level of quality physical and mental health
care for all residents. We also stress that a single-payer system is an acceptable way to contain cost and provide equitable access without compromising accessibility or quality care. We advocate through co-sponsoring and organizing public meetings, asking questions at candidates meetings and town hall meetings , writing letters to state and national politicians and writing articles for the newspaper. We hope to incorporate this into lobbying days and provide handouts at public meetings.

We meet monthly in the late afternoon. If you would like to be part of this group contact Rebecca Elgie, committee chair, 272-0621.
